Remedial Massage

Remedial Massage is a form of manual body work, often described as a holistic method of manipulating the soft tissues of the body to have a specific effect and help restore healthy function.

When muscles have become tense from overuse, postural imbalances and dysfunctional patterns in coordination, balance, gait and respiration. Remedial Massage can provide a healing treatment. Techniques including deep tissue massage, myofascial release, trigger point therapy and stretching.

Remedial massage works like relaxation massage to increase the circulation to affected areas,  increasing the rate of venous return from extremities, assisting with the removal of waste products and thereby decreasing recovery time.  Massage facilitates the reduction of muscle and joint restrictions, to enable a return to the maximum range of movement, with increased flexiblity.  Many people are using Remedial massage to ensure a return to optimal health and well being after injury, there are a number techniques that can be successfully employed to create this relaxation.  Basic massage techniques like effleurage and petrissage are useful.  Connective tissue massage techniques like skin rolling and sustained stretching are also excellent.  One of the most simple and effective techniques, especially in areas that are painful or ticklish is static pumping with the fingers or palm through compression and then stretching the tissue in different directions as the tissue softens and becomes more responsive.

Once each layer of tissue relaxes and the texture is normalised, the next layer of dysfunction can be addressed.  By respecting the client’s tolerance and pain threshold I avoid ‘bulldozing the barrier’ and reduce the risk of overworking tissue and creating pain or irritation that wasn’t there to begin with.

I look forward to working with you to optimise your health in the near future.
